A DAY AT THE ZOO

"We are going to Regent's Park this morning." Mr. Miller said after breakfast.
"Aren't we going to the zoo today?" Zeynep asked.
"Yes," Mr. Miller answered. "The zoo is in Regent's Park."
"How shall we go there?" Ahmet asked Mr. Miller.
"Oh, we can take a  bus or we can go there on the underground train."
"Let's go by bus," Zeynep said. "I like to sit upstairs in the bus."
"Yes, but upstairs is dangerous," Mr. Miller said smilling.
"Why is it dangerous?" Ahmet asked.
"One day a drunken man got on a bus. He sat downstairs. He bought his ticket and began to shout. The conductor came and told him to go and sit upstairs because there was nobody sitting there. The drunken man got up and went up the stairs. After a few minutes he came dowstairs and sat in his old place. The conductor asked him. "Why did you come down again? Why don't you sit upstairs?" The drunken man answered, "Upstairs is very dangerous, because there isn't a driver there."
Zeynep and Ahmet laughed at this.
They took a bus from Euston Square and got off at Albany Street. They walked to the North Gate of the zoo. Mr. Miller bought tickets. The zoo was very crowded. First they went to see the fishes. There were thousands of fishes from different countries. "Some of these fishes are poisonous," a keeper told them.
After the fishes they went to see the lions and tigers. There were a lot of people watching them. A keeper was putting pieces of meat into the cages of the lions and tigers.
From here they went to see the monkeys. The monkeys were playing in their cages. The children laughed at them and enjoyed themselves very much.
Then they came to the birds-house. Thay saw hundreds of birds from every part of the world. From the birds-house they went to the  parrot-house. Hundreds of parrots were making a lot of noise. It was diffucult to understand them, but one of them was shouting, "Silly Jack, get me fruit. Silly Jack." A keeper came near them and said, "Jack is the name  of the head-keeper. This parrot and the head-keeper are not very good friends."
Most of the snakes were sleeping when they came to the snake-house. Some of them were behind glass.
"Are they all poisonous?" Zeynep asked the keeper.
"No, not all. There are very few poisonous snakes in the world, but people are afraid of them. Where are you from?"
"We are from Turkey," Zeynep answered him.
There are not many poisonous snakes in your country."
"Which is the most poisonous snake here?" Mary asked the keeper.
"That small snake with a green, yellow, red and black skin can kill an elephant in two minutes."
"Has it killed anybody yet?" Mrs. Miller asked him.
"Only one man. That was on a ship coming from India and a man in the ship wanted to count how many colours there were on it. He counted them, but he hadn't enough time to tell anybody."
"I don't think the animals are very happy in a zoo, although they get their food every day," Mary said.
"Yes, but the forests are more dangerous for the smaller animals, so here, although they aren't free, they are safe. Most of the small animals live only three our four years in the forest. But here they can live many years longer," answered Mr. Miller. "And most of these animals don't know forest  life."

HAYVANAT BAHÇESİNDE BİR GÜN

Kahvaltıdan sonra Mr. Miller, "Bu sabah Regent's Park'a gidiyoruz." dedi.
Zeynep, "Bugün hayvanat bahçesine gitmiyor muyuz?" diye sordu.
Mr. Miller, "Evet," diye cevap verdi. "Hayvanat bahçesi Regent's Park'ı içindedir."
Ahmet, Mr.  Miller'e "Oraya nasıl gideceğiz?" diye sordu.
"Oo..
Dünyanın her yerinden yüzlerce kuş gördüler.
Siz nerelisiniz?"
Zeynep ona, "Biz Türkiyeliyiz." diye cevap verdi.
